Delhi Technological University (DTU) has introduced a new policy providing exemption from the PhD entrance examination for selected categories of candidates, aiming to encourage experienced professionals and employees to pursue doctoral research.

Under the new rules, DTU’s non-teaching staff with a minimum of three years of continuous service are eligible for entrance exam exemption. However, these candidates must submit a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the concerned authority and will be allowed admission only in part-time PhD programmes. Additionally, candidates applying under this category will not be eligible for university fellowships.

The exemption policy has also been extended to Delhi government and central government employees, provided they have completed at least five years of regular service. Eligible applicants from these departments can skip the written entrance test and will be considered directly for the interview stage, subject to submission of a valid NOC.

University officials stated that the initiative is designed to promote research participation among experienced professionals, utilise their practical knowledge in academic research, and strengthen the research ecosystem at DTU. The move reflects a broader trend in higher education to recognise professional experience as a valuable qualification for doctoral studies.
