IPFT and IIT Delhi launch joint PhD programme to advance agrochemicals research

The Institute of Pesticide Formulation Technology (IPFT), Gurugram, in collaboration with the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi), has launched its first-ever Joint PhD Programme aimed at advancing research in agrochemical sciences and related fields. This initiative marks a significant milestone in promoting high-end research, innovation, and academic excellence in areas such as formulation science, sustainable agrochemicals, regulatory science, and technology development.

Under the partnership established through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), the programme will be supported by six sponsored PhD fellowships, offering students the opportunity to engage in interdisciplinary, industry-oriented, and translational research. It brings together the strengths of IPFT’s applied research environment and IIT Delhi’s academic expertise, providing a platform that emphasizes both rigorous academic training and real-world applicability.

Dr. Mohana Krishna Reddy Mudiam, Director of IPFT, described the launch as a defining moment for the institute, highlighting that it will strengthen the research ecosystem in agrochemical sciences and help translate cutting-edge scientific discoveries into practical solutions for agriculture, aligning with the Government of India’s vision of “Lab to Land”.

Prof. Vivek Kumar, Head of the Centre for Rural Development and Technology at IIT Delhi, emphasized the collaboration’s potential to bridge academic research with societal needs. He noted that the programme will focus on eco-friendly and sustainable solutions for pest management, balancing environmental safety with agricultural productivity.

Doctoral scholars admitted to the programme will work under joint supervision from IPFT scientists and IIT Delhi faculty, enabling them to address contemporary challenges in agrochemical and formulation sciences. The partnership also supports national initiatives such as Aatmanirbhar Bharat, Viksit Bharat, and Skill India, and is expected to contribute to capacity building, industry–academia linkages, and the development of future scientific leaders.
