IIT Delhi and University of Queensland Open Admissions for Joint PhD Programme with Full Scholarship Support

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi, in collaboration with the University of Queensland (UQ), Australia, has announced admissions for its prestigious Joint PhD Programme, offering research aspirants an opportunity to pursue a doctoral degree with international exposure, dual supervision, and comprehensive financial support. The programme is conducted under the UQ–IIT Delhi Research Academy and is aimed at promoting high-quality global research collaboration between the two institutions.

The four-year joint doctoral programme is open to eligible postgraduate candidates across multiple disciplines, including science, engineering, technology, and related research areas. Selected candidates will undertake advanced research under the guidance of supervisors from both IIT Delhi and the University of Queensland. As part of the programme structure, students will spend a significant portion of their research tenure at IIT Delhi, along with a dedicated research year at the University of Queensland in Australia, allowing them to gain exposure to international research environments, facilities, and academic practices.

Upon successful completion of the programme, scholars will be awarded a joint PhD degree jointly conferred by IIT Delhi and the University of Queensland, enhancing the global recognition and academic value of the qualification.

According to the admission schedule, the online application process commenced on 30 October 2025, and interested candidates can submit their applications until 7 January 2026 through the official UQ-IITD Research Academy portal. The shortlisted candidates will be announced in multiple phases, followed by interviews scheduled in April 2026. Final selections will be based on academic merit, research proposal quality, and interview performance.

One of the major highlights of the joint PhD programme is its attractive scholarship package, which provides financial support throughout the duration of the course. Selected candidates will receive a monthly stipend of ₹37,000 during the first year, which will increase to ₹42,000 per month in the subsequent years, along with an additional monthly top-up of ₹10,000. During the research stay in Australia, scholars will be provided with an annual stipend of approximately AUD 36,400, in line with University of Queensland norms.

In addition to the stipend, the programme offers tuition fee waiver at the University of Queensland, relocation and travel assistance, and health insurance coverage during the overseas research period, ensuring that students can focus fully on their research without financial constraints.
